Local Cures [duchas:4601465]
The following are cures belonging to page seventy eight which I procured since the cures on page seventy eight were written. A cure for a cut is to apply the bark of an oak tree to the wound for a few days. Another cure for a cut is to put a herb, locally known as "comfrey" on the cut. Sore eyes are cured by squeesing the juice out of house leek, which is a plant that grows on the walls of buildings and applying it to the eyes. A cure for a burn is to put baking soda on the part that is burned. Buttermilk is also used to cure a burn. Kathleen Keany, Annagh, Glenfarne, Co. Leitrim. These cures were also given by mother.
