Muna íosfadh na seandhaoiní a dhothain ar "Oidhche an Dhóthain Mhóir" cheap siad nach mbeadh a ngóthain le n-ithe acu i rith na bliana.
D mbeadh sean duine go mall ar Aigreann  an chéad lá de'n bhliana cheap sé go mbeadh sé mall 'chuile lá de'n bhliana go léir.
An chaoi a bheadh an ghaoth ag séideadh ar lá Samhna ceapadar gurab shin í an treó a bheadh air i rith leath na bliana.
Rachadh na sean dhaoine go dtí an seipéal chun an "choróinn Mhuire" a radh ar oidhche Shamhna. Nuair a bhíodh siad ag teacht abhaile rachadh siad isteach i ngáirdín ar bith in a mbiodh cabáiste ag fás. Tharraingeodh siad ceann
