Lioses and Raths [duchas:4382095]
There is an old lios about a quarter of a mile from the school. It is situated in the centre of a marsh. This lios is the best known of all lioses in the parish. The lios is in the shape of a saucer, round, and a hole in the middle. The lios is a high mound of earth made in the form of a circle and a trench of water surrounding it. The lios, it is said, according to old people was the residence of some old chieftain. The trench was a defence from wild animals or from an enemy. It is said that they those lioses during the Danish period to defend themselves from the Danes.

There is another lios in Knockeen called Lisduggan. I heard a story about a person that took sticks from a lios. When the person went home and put the sticks in the fire this person's son who was warming himself at the fire was stricken with a sickness which he succumbed to afterwards.
