In olden times traders were practised as to day but years ago most things were done by work of hand and not by machines. There were hand looms? around the town but mostely in the Green Lanes. These people wore lovely linen and damask, this hand trade is now obsolete. Rope making was also carried on by the people of Drogheda and it is still carried on by Hoyes of the Rope

Walk whom the place takes its name. The making of leather was also a Drogheda trade that was carried on by Finnegan Brothers, Shop Street. The factory was in Johns Street where an old store is now standing. McQuillans, West Street were chandlers and still carry on the trade. Basket making was carried on in Shop St. where chairs and basket craft is still being made by Donnegans who also make nets for fishing.
