The coast around Drogheda is wide and spacious but it is not often a boat sinks around here. I am going to tell one that was told to me a long time ago. It happened at Mornington. About fifty years ago a small sailing vessel called the Marcus left here for Garston. It was just at Mornington when it was noticed that the rigging was cut. After a while the mast fell and destroyed the front of the ship which was sinking fast. A life-boat put out to its aid and took the sailors off. The Marcus sank but the

men were saved. There is no sign of it now although it is believed to be still there.
