A collection of Riddles Information collected from:- Mr. J. McMahon, The Glebe, Ardagh. 1. As I went over the road, I met a man with an iron nose, And timber toes, and upon my word, He would frighten the crows. Ans:- a gun. 2. "Ink" and under the bank Ten drawing four. Ans:- A woman milking a cow. 3. I washed my face in water that never rained or ran, And I wiped my face in a towel that was never worn or spun. Ans:- The Sun and dew. 4. As black as ink and ink it is not, as white as milk and milk it is not, and it hopes on the road like hailstones. Ans:- A magpie. 5. it is red and yellow and green, The King cannot come at it,

No more cannot the Queen. Ans:- A rainbow. 6. Long legs, Crooked thighs, A small head, And no eyes. Ans:- A tongs. 7. In a garden was laid, A most beautiful maid, That ever was seen in the morn, She was made a bride, The first day of her life, And she died before she was born. Ans:- Eve. 8. Jenny white peticoat, Jenny red nose, The longer she lives, The shorter she grows. Ans:- a candle. 9 I have a little house, And a mouse could not fit in it, And all the men in town, Could not count all the windows in it.

Ans:- a thimble 10 Spell the red rogue of the world in three letters? Ans:- A fox. 11 Spell scrape the garden in three letters? Ans:- Hen 12 The man that made it never wore it and the man that wore it never saw it. Ans:- A coffin. 13 As I went up a slippery gap, I met my uncle Davy, I cut off his head, And let his body go easy. Ans:- A head of cabbage. 14 What always walks with its head downwards? Ans:- A nail in a man's boot.
