The Hangman's Tree [duchas:4980154]
There is an ancient tree known by that name. It is situated on the roadside between Ballinlough Crossroads and the Gate Lodge. It is believed in Cromwell's time priests were hung on the tree. The local people fear to pass it at night (Mrs Leavy Kilrush - 50 s) An ointment for "Scabs" used be made from daisy-roots; another ointment for yellow jaundice was made from primroses.
