Newtown and Bovinion (bó-mhín-Eoin). Long ago there was a fight for a fine cow in Bovinion. Two parties were fighting and at the head of one party there was a man named Eoin. His side won the cow and that how Bovinion got its name. Newtown (Baile Nuadh) Long ago all the people of Newtown were living up in "Seán Baille" or "Old Town". The people said that they were living too far away from the public road and they began to build down near the public road and they called it Newtown. said he would call it Creagán which means Mt Bellew. Balli-na-hattina Long ago when the people came into this village the village was crowded with firs. Aithne is the Irish for firs and Baille is the Irish for town so Baille na hattina si the town of firs. Killasolan There was a man naned St. Solan. When he died the place was called Killasolan. There is a graveyard in this village and there are the ruins of an old church in it. There is one wall of the church standing. The people of the village are buried there. This church was destroyed long ago by Cromwell and his men.
