Weather Lore

1.   A rainbow in the morning is the shepherd's warning.
2.   A red sunset is the sign of a following fine day.
3.   If the smoke from the chimney goes up straight, it the sign of a fine day.
4.   The Southwest wind brings the rain to this district.
5.   When the crows make a great row going home to the rookery at night, it is a sign of bad weather, also the sea-gulls following the farmer ploughing in the field.
6.   When the hills appear near it is a sign of bad weather.
7.   When there is a ring round the moon - a sign of bad weather.
Birds flying high - good weather
Birds flying low - bad weather.
The cat sits with her back to the fire is the sign of a storm.
