An Bloscaod Mór — Tháinig an ainm ó'n bhfocal "Blosc" a chialluigheann rud a thabharfhadh foithin duit nó a choimeádfhadh an ghaoth uait. Toisc scata oileán bheag a bheith scaipighthe sa bhfarraighe ag deanamh fothanna d'á chéile a thugadh an ainm sin ortha.
Dúnchaoin:— Indhiaidh taoisig de mhuinntir Chuinn go raibh fearthainn aige sa pharroiste sin.
Corcha Dhuibhne: Bannríoghain do Chlanna Míleadh d'ár b'ainm di Duibhinn a tháinig i dtír taobh thiar do'n Dún Mhór agus a chuir chúithe sa ceanntar í féin is a complacht.
An Buailtín — ó'n bhfocal "buaille" nó áit crúidhte na mbó. San áit go bhfuil an tsráid bheag anois is annsan a bhailightí na ba fadó chun iad a chrúdhadh.
Coimineól: Com-an-Iarla an chéad ainm ó Iarla Chorcaige a bhí mar thighearna talmhan ins an áit.
