The Famine [duchas:4388645]

In Donegal during the Famine the starving people were offered food if they turned Protestant. A man named Kerrigan did so and as a reward he got a bag of meal.

In the Ballyshannon district a great number of people died of small-pox. Those who died were interred in one large grave.

The Famine [duchas:4388646]

Sometimes people who were dying, but who were not quite dead, were buried alive.

There was also a plague of cholera during the Famine.

A girl was sick of the small-pox and the police came to take her away and bury her. Her parents, however, fought to prevent her burial. They succeeded in their object and later cured her.
