Seosamh Naomhtha [duchas:4388799]

Near (Ballintra) Ballymagrorty there is a place called Barnadearg. The reason for its being so called is that in a lough somewhere in Rockhill there lived a monster. He used to attack anyone who came near the lake after dusk.

One evening a girl came to the lake or water. The monster attacked the girl but her brother came on hearing her cries. The animal made off in the direction of Barnadearg with the girl. Her brother followed the monster and over took it at Barnadearg. After a lengthy struggle he killed it. After the fight the ground was so covered with blood that the place was called Barnadearg.
