Once there lived in Eyeries a woman called Maire Ni Murcada. She was a wise old woman. She would tell you all about what would happen to you. She used to be always with the fairies. One night a man was coming from the Mines and it was very late. He was taken away by the fairies and they had a fairy hurling match in the Slieve of Allihies and Maire Ni Murcada was with them. She told him if they would be giving him anything to eat not to take it or if he would he should stay with

them for ever. The fairies were trying to keep him. But Maire told them not to keep him because his father had no one but him. So they let the man go home and after reaching home he got sick, and they asked him where he was all night but he would not tell them. Then Maire Ni Murcada heard it and she went to the house and them to get a mass said for him that he was in the fairies. Then the father went for the priest and told him to say mass for his son. The mass was said and the sick man got alright. When Maire Ni Murcada would go into the graveyard she would talk to the dead.
