The Breakey Roaring Ghost [duchas:4974655]

The Breaky Roaring Ghost told to Patrick Conlon, Mullinavalley, Moynalty, by John Farnan age 41, Kilobyne, Tierworker.

In the downland of Concar, Kilmainhamwood on the side of the Failors Hill a man named Thonas Reilly once lived.  When he died the late James Kearney of Mullinavalley, Moynalty came over to his farm.
One day when he was ploughing, he say a large flat stone and as he was wanting a hearthstone he brought hit home with him.  It was believed that a ghost was under the stone but Kearney did not know this.
The first night he took it way there was roaring in this spot.  Everybody was out for miles

around listening to the queer sounds.  The next night this being was in the air all over the district.  The whole population was panic stricken and no one would go out after dark one any conditions.  This being was called all over the country the Breaky Roaring Ghost.
One night a you boy went out on a message and he had to pass this place.  When so doing something in their pursued him into a bog where the boy had to remain all night.  When found he was brought into a house there he died after a few minutes.  
When this was going on for some time the stone was replaced by Kearney and was

never seen again. The ghost also stopped its queer shouting.
