A Limekiln
There was a limekiln on every farm in this locality long ago. Each farmer made his own lime and used it for manuring the land. He used to fill the kiln with stones and culm or hard coal. First he used to put in a layer of stones and then a layer of culm and timber and so on till the kiln is full to the top. Then he used to light the fire underneath and let it burn away until all the stones were changed into lime. Then the lime was drawn out at the bottom of the kiln.
