Local Storms - The Big Storm [duchas:4957886]
The Big Storm Old people in this district refer to the time of this storm as, "The Night of the Big Wind". On that night practically every house in this district was blown down. At that time, slated roofs were unheard of in this neighbourhood and for years after the storm, people building new houses, were very particular in chooing sites that were well-sheltered. This precaution was taken as a result of the damage done to the thatched roofs at the time of the Big Storm. Collected by: James Fearon (13 yrs) Bavan, Omeath, Co. Louth From: Owen Fearon (50 yrs.)
