Fleming says he does not think his contribution to Tinker folklore is worthy of the praise Ó Súilleabháin has bestowed on it. He says that his belief is that 'an effort should be made to control the whole [Tinker] class and make them do more work for the nation at large'. He continues 'they [the Tinkers] will become a damned nuisance unless some steps be taken to put a limit to their number', adding that it is well- known that tinkers are 'idlers'. He says they are setting a bad example to society and asks the question 'why should we work hard when we see so many of the Tinker Class idling about and having a good time'.
