Seán Ó Súilleabháin was archivist and registrar with the Commission and later with the Department of Irish Folklore until his retirement. Carl Wilhelm von Sydow was Professor of Folklore in the University of Lund and contributed greatly to comparative folklore studies between Ireland and Scandinavia. On one of his visits to Ireland he took a number of valuable photographs which he left with the Irish Folklore Commission.
