The street was laid out by Luke Gardiner in 1729-30. Nos. 11 and 12 (at centre of image) were built by Luke Gardiner and leased respectively to Henry Boyle, Earl of Shannon, and William Stewart, 3rd Viscount Mountjoy. No. 12 was substantially re-modelled in 1782. No. 13 (far left) dates to 1740s. The King's Inns Library, designed 1825-8 by Frederick Darley, is just visible at far left.
