Constantine Peter Curran [usu. C. P. Curran], 1880-1972; ed. O’Connell Schools (CBS) and UCD, was a lawyer and a historian of 18th century Dublin architecture, sculpture and plasterwork, with a life-long interest in art and literature.
Acquisition Information
University College Dublin acquired part of Curran’s library, and his manuscript collection, in 1972, from Curran’s daughter (Elizabeth Curran Solterer).
Scope and Content
This collection of 60 photographs is contained in the Curran Collection, UCD Library Special Collections. Comprises photographs of James Joyce and his family, John Francis Byrne, Paul Léon, Albert Power, Douglas Hyde, George Russell (A.E.), the Sheehy sisters, Padraic Colum, Thomas Kettle, Eoin Mac Neill, Osborn Bergin, and George Clancy, amongst others. It also includes photographs of sculptures, paintings and different views of Dublin.
Arrangement
Each photograph is numbered consecutively, from CUR.P.5 to CUR.P.70. Some items were not in their folders and could not be scanned. Some items were duplicates and were not scanned.

Related Material
The photographs collection is contained in the wider collection of books and papers of Constantine Peter Curran. His book collection in UCD includes editions from the Irish literary revival, and some James Joyce first editions. His manuscript collection consists principally of some 400 letters. The letters are mostly to Constantine Curran, but some are to his wife Helen (Laird) Curran, and a group are addressed to Thomas Kettle. Among Curran’s literary correspondents were George William Russell (AE), Jack B. Yeats, W.B. Yeats, James Joyce, relatives and friends of Joyce, and scholars with an interest in Joyce’s life and writing.
