The artist's name is in the bottom right corner 'J. Connolly' and in the left 'Case of Emma Reily aet 30'. The handwritten note on the back reads 'P15A. Emma Reilly aet 30, admitted with paralysis of the [?] dura of the left side, produced by cold, after some time she left the hospital, having experienced very little benefit from treatments. A few months afterwards she was readmitted with paralysis of the right side of the face. She had also paralysis of the 5th nerve of that side. Shortly afterwards she was fixed with epileptic paroxysmus. The right pupil was dilated & fixed, the left contracted & for some time before death she had loss of vision and paralysis of the right side of the body. The immediate cause of death was an apoplectic effusion at the base of the brain. With this exception, the morbid appearances were confined to the pons, which externally, was rough & vascular & internally presented a yellow discolouration to a considerable depth.
