Burns, gangrene, anthrax, erysipelas, glanders


Watercolour medical illustration depicting burns, gangrene, anthrax, erysipelas, glanders in a man. It has the alternative reference number 1485, 428 and P7A on the front. There is no Richmond Hospital Museum reference. The handwritten note on the back reads '34. Patrick Doris aet 44 admitted Aug.t 27 1833. He stated that 24 days previously he noticed a livid patch in the right groin which gradually enlarged, became sloughy and a fetid, bloody discharge took place from it, he had diarrhoea and bloody stools & spots of prepuce over his body, his pulse gradually rose to 130. The diarrhoea became aggravated and then haemorrhaging from the groin and from the bowels increased in frequency, he was seized with rigors at night and died Sep.r 10th 1833'.
