Residence of Henry Loftus, 3rd Earl of Ely. The ceiling of this vestibule is decorated to designs by James 'Athenian' Stuart, who had provided designs for the earl's country seat, Rathfarnham Castle, in 1769.

Henrietta Street, No. 10: general view of stairhall


The residence of Luke Gardiner, the house dates to the late 1720s. Sir Edward Lovett Pearce credited with some assistance in design. Originally of four-bays wide (at right), the house was enlarged and re-modelled on numerous occasions beginning c1755. This stair hall dates from the remodelling of the house.

Ely House: view of stairhall


Residence of Henry Loftus, 3rd Earl of Ely. The staircase is a scaled-down replica of that in the Palace of Charles of Lorraine at Brussels, completed by the Flemish sculptor Laurent Delvaux in 1769. This version attributed to the Flemish sculptor and stuccodore Barthomolew Cramillion who was active in Dublin after 1772.
