Turkies are harder to rear than any other fowl in a farmyard and get many diseases unknown in any other fowl. One of these is what is called "Hard Craw" and in order to cure it little insects called 'slater' are put alive down the bird's throat. They are supposed to walk through the 'crop' and break up the hard food.
