The Ghost Cock [duchas:4861557]

There was a certain house in Rock Lane built on a grave-yard. One night there were some persons coming from a dance & they had to cross fields to get to their homes.

When they came to the fence they could not go in because the place was "black" with rats. They went around another way. When they reached the first door, a cock flew out amongst them. They fell in the door from sheer fright. When they got up next morning, the cock was dead at the door.
