There was a house in the townsland of Newgrove parish of Drumraney and county of Westmeath. This house was owned by a family called the Bannons. These people lived in the time of the famine. Some of these people died of hunger and more of them went to America. The reason they died of hunger was, because on account of the failure of the potatoes. The place where the potatoes failed was in the pits. When the next year came the people had no potatoes to sow and the government gave the potatoes out free and the year after the people had to pay it back in the rates.
