Photograph of a badly burned body in a coffin. The coffin, and lid, are being propped up towards the photographer by a group of men; the shroud has been pulled back from the upper half of the body and the legs are crudely tied together with a strap. Possibly, one of the Loughnan brothers (I.R.A.members), arrested by R.I.C. in November 1920 and found burned and mutilated between Kinvara and Ardrahan early in December 1920.

The two photographs have some differences in detail. The buildings possibly are on Sackville Street. The foreground contains twisted metal including the remains of a tram and a sign advertising Nestle's.

This collection of photographic prints forms part of the papers of Desmond FitzGerald (P80). The majority of theses photographs arise out of the Civil War but other smaller series relate to the aftermath of the Easter Rising and to the War of Independence. There are also other series of army portraits and of historical occasions photographs.
