The Stirabout Gate [duchas:4972690]
There is a gate on our road which is called "The Stirabout Gate". During the time of the Penal Days in Ireland, the people would be in a hurry to eat their porridge in the mornings, and they used to come to this gate and finish it there. There is a stile beside the gate where they used to sit and eat their meal. This gate is situated about three quarters of a mile from Kilskyre and this is how it got its name.
