Potato Crops [duchas:4350593]
The farmer usually sows about an acre and a half or two acres of ground under the potato crop each year. First it is ploughed in the month of February or March and made into ridges or drills then the farmer manures it and sows the slits. Then when the potatoes are growing the farmer sprays them in the months of June, July and September to keep away the blight. There are several kinds of potatoes grown in my district namely the arran Bannars, epicures, Champions, Kerrs Pinks, Dates, Queens and Flounders. The earliest potato the farmer digs in this district is the epicure the next are the Queens. The arran Bannars is a harvest potato and

it is a very large potato it is used for feeding pigs and fowl. Long ago people used the potatoes for starch. First they would take the skin of it then they would chop it up very fine and mix it with hot water and then it would be made into starch.
