Tally Iron Used during Time Old White Cap or Bonnet Was Worn... [duchas:5044094]
Tally iron used during time old white cap or bonnet was worn by old women. The frill or border was in a honeycomb form & after washing & drying the cap was starched and the border ironed with aid of tally iron. The poker was reddened in the fire & thread into the iron. The ironer placed each frill of the cap on the iron & pressed. James Brady of Cordiggan gave me a tallyiron & I give you a rough sketch of same with one which I saw in use in my younger days. Use of cap ceased about 1903. Tallyiron. Tallyiron used Jas Brady. in my early days.
