The drums beat slowly in funeral time, As his corpse to Jamestown we carried; And his comrades discharged three farewell shots, O'er the grave where our Loved one lies buried. II He was buried with honours, as a Soldier should be, Who fought for the freedom of others; May his Soul rest in Heaven, His body's with us, to sleep with his Father and Mother. III By Shannon's Bright Stream, we laid him to rest, With the old Abbey shadows around him;

Far, Far, from the Battlefield red with his blood, Where the French red ambulance found him. IV Long and fervent the Prayers that were said, And our hearts were broken and humbled; Never more shall we look on the face of our dear Till the Angel's of God sounds his trumpet. V Sleep Soldier Sleep, your battles are o'er; Altho' they were many and gory, But you did your bit well, and fought like a man, And we Pray you're with God in His Glory
