Ar codhladh agus leabaidh le grádh geal mo chroidhe.
Ar cur mé mo láimh tharam dom go bpósann a béal.
Isí fuaireas sa leaba acht an balla 's mé féin.

'S fada (is) mé toirigheacht cur tuairisg bean tighe.
Tuairisg ní b'fearr mé i mballa na i dtír.
Nuair chonnaich mé an bhean deas an chaoith cnoc 'na suide
'S a cuilín donn gruaige dá fáideach le gaoth.

III

Tá mo teach ar an árd 's dhá chinn san ngaoth,
Tá an bháisteach anuas ann agus an tuille dul faoi,
Tá mo bhó ag géimneach agus mo laoi sa gciag,
Agus cé bí áit bhfuil mo mhíle stórirín
I dteach an ól atá mo mheain,
Tá mo mo muinntear ag rádh liomsa gur mé bheith ag ól,
Ait shuas ar bharr crainnte agus uisge an faill-mhóir,
A cursannaí dhílis ní chuireann sé mé beo.
Mar béidh buideal 's carn láim liom
'S mé bheith go siáraidhe 'á ól.
