Churning [duchas:4621396]
We have a churn at home. It is a dash churn. It is about 2 ¾ ft in height and it is about 2 ft in breadth at the bottom and it is about 1 ½ ft at the top. It was made 4 years ago in a mill in Mount Bellew. The various parts of the churn are - the dash, lid and cup. Churning is done three times weekly in Summer and twice weekly in Winter. My sister always does the churning. If strangers come in while the churning is being made they always take a hand at the churn because

he or she would put more butter in it. There are a lot of superstitions about churning - putting a coal under the churn, so it would be easy to churn. People never put buttermilk into the churn secondly because if any body came in they could steal the butter.
