Local Fairs [duchas:4696879]
Long ago there were local fairs in this locality that are not held nowadays. There is a fair held in Riverstown on the fourteenth of every month. A few years ago it used to be held in the "Fair Green" but it is now held in the street. There are all sorts of animals at the fair, namely, pigs, calves, sheep and cows. People who have cattle to sell bring them to the fair. Men who are buying will ask the seller what

price does he want. As a general rule the seller asks a few pounds more than he expects. A crowd will gather round them to make the bargain. When the bargain is finished the man marks what he purchased and pays for it. The seller then gives "luck" to the person who has bought. There are seven old fairs and five new fairs during the year. The days the old fairs are held the children have not to go to school.
