Bhíodh saoghal ana-cruaidh acu. Bhíodh sias amuigh gach maidin roimh eirighe na gréine ag fuirea le solus chun na prátaí a bhaint agus gan acht scilling a tseachtain acu. 
Bhídís ag an séipéal ag fuaireach feachaint a bh'fuigidís aon rud le seanamh agus b'féidir go mbeidís ann ar feadh t-seachtmhain sé bh'fhuighidís aon rud le Seanamh.
Caithfidis éirighe an-luath ar maidin agus dul síos go dtí an tráig ag bailiú trioscair agus bhíodh siad ag troid mar geall ar an tráigh.
Dhéinidís é tharraingt go dtí an pháirch ar a dróm. Ní bhíodh aon bhiadh acu acht prátaí agus bainne.
Bhídís ag obair ana-cruaidh gach lá chun airgead a dhíol leis an tighearna talmhan. Ní bhíodh aon stocaí ortha acht sean bhróga. Ní bhíodh aon milseáin ná rudaí deasa eile acu an uair sin.
