Information from - Patrick Linehan Banteer Co. Cork. Age - 62 yrs. On the night of the Big Wind 1839 one of the boys of a family named Murphy, Lyre, Banteer, woke up in the morning and found that the roof of the house was stripped. This occurred during their sleep. This boy, Murphy, lived to a great age, and he was known as "Liam Fiadhain" because of his violent temper. This Liam used to tell that he attended a "Hedge School" in his younger days. This school was held in an old disused barn. Each pupil had his own Reader called "Reading made easy". The master had a long rod in his hand. He used take a sleep in the middle of the day. Occasionally he would wake up and draw the rod across
