Bird-Lore [duchas:5029753]

The robin, blackbird, wren, swallow, blackdiver, goldfinch, williewagtail, crow, tomtit, seagull, eagle, owl, pigeon, magpie, yellowhammer, jackdaw, hawk, leatherwingbat, lark, snipe, blackstairs, thrush, whistler, corncrake, pheasant, grouse, cuckoo, partridge cock, and philipine or plover, live in this district.
Birds live on worms and insects. It is said that there was only one fire long ago. A bear which did not like it saw a man and boy minding it to keep it lighting. One day the boy minding it fell asleep and the bear put it out. A robin saw it and flapped her wings until the fire lit up and scorched her breast; a robin has a red breast. The swallow goes away in the winter and comes back in summer.
