Nuair a bhí na saor-chlocha ag déanamh Mainistir Bhaile Cláir bhí an Gobán Saor ag obair ann. Ní raibh aon mheas ag na saoir eile air mar cheapadar gur amadán a bhí ann. Lá nuair a bhí siad ag dul ag ithe a ndinnéar thug siad cloch mhór dó agus dubhairt siad leis cat is dá ruball air a dhéanamh aiste. Acht nuair a tháinig siad amach bhí an cat is dá ruball air déanta aige. Nuair a chonnaic siad sin bhailigh siad a gcuid rudaú le chéile agus d'fhág siad ag an nGobán-Saor le dhéanamh é. Rinne sé sa mbliadhain 1290 é.
