The Big Wind of 1839 [duchas:5042124]
Old people of this district say that on the night of the "Big Wind" stacks of corn were lifted from their standing and lighted in neighbouring fields. Many of the little "botáns" were overthrown. Derryheen Church, which is one of the Churches in Cavan Parish, was being built at that time and the roof wasn't completed. They say that the "big wind" twisted the laths of the roof.
