Some people believe that according to the number of magpies seen at a time, they serve as omens of good or bad luck. So the rhyme says:-
The Magpie [duchas:4971684]
One for bad luck, Two for good luck, Three for a wedding, And four for a birth, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret that will never be told.
