Development of Fitzwilliam (now Pembroke) estate instigated by 6th Viscount Fitzwilliam from 1752. Leases for the south side were issued from 1786.

Henrietta Street, No. 13: staircase


The house was built in the 1740s by Luke Gardiner, but was not leased until 1755. This staircase was formerly at Lisle House, Molesworth Street (demolished in 1974). The original staircase had been removed late C19 or early C20, when the house was in tenements.

Henrietta Street, No. 11: principal staircase


The house was built by Luke Gardiner and leased respectively to Henry Boyle, Earl of Shannon. Design in part attributed to Sir Edward Lovett Pearce. Stair hall wainscoted throughout. Stairs of Portland stone.

Ely House: view of stairhall


Residence of Henry Loftus, 3rd Earl of Ely. The staircase is a scaled-down replica of that in the Palace of Charles of Lorraine at Brussels, completed by the Flemish sculptor Laurent Delvaux in 1769. This version attributed to the Flemish sculptor and stuccodore Barthomolew Cramillion who was active in Dublin after 1772.

Also known as Doneraile House. Built in 1753 to designs by John Ensor for the Hon. Hayes St Leger, later 4th Viscount Doneraile.

William Street South, Powerscourt House: stairhall


Built for Richard Wingfield, 3rd Viscount Powerscourt, from 1771. The staircase was made by Ignatius McDonagh. Remodelled as a shopping centre in 1978-81.
