UCD Convent Collections

Abstract: UCD Convent Collections is a UCD Digital Archives project (PI: Professor Deirdre Raftery, School of Education). It comprises digitised archival material from congregations of women religious (nuns), offering insight into their work in education and healthcare. The collection includes projects on Irish missionary Sisters, and on the expansion of global networks of schools and hospitals run by women religious (nuns). In addition to providing access to important archives, it supports innovative research that shows ways in which convents and nuns were part of the very fabric of Irish life, across several centuries.
