Abstract: Watercolour medical illustrations depicting pneumonia with tumefaction of the lung. It has the alternative reference number 1986 and P2C on the front. The Richmond Hospital Museum reference is B.e.39. The entry for this in P263/1 pg. 18 reads 'Pneumonia with tumefaction of the lung. Michael Moore aet 50'. The patient's name is in the bottom left corner 'Michael Moore aet 50' followed by 'Pneumonia with tumefactions of the lung'. The handwritten note on the back begins 'Pneumonia with tumefaction of the lungs'.

Scope and content
The full handwritten note on the back reads 'Pneumonia with tumefaction of the lungs. The patient was admitted into Hosp.l May 9th 1840 complaining of dyspnea, acute pain in his side, cough & purulent expectorations, the entire of the affected side was dull on [?], with bronchial respiration & muco-[?]. He had been 3 months ill, but was able to attend to his daily employment till shortly before his admission, when he had an acute attack with great [?] of pain, cough & purulent expectorations. He died two days after his admission. The affected side measured an inch and a half more than the left or sound side & the diaphragm [?], so as to displace the liver, the imposition of the ribs were seen on the enlarged & swollen lung. The cavity of the pleura was obliterated. A section of the lung showed a multitude of granular masses of lymph, deposited in the pulmonary air-cells, each having a fine pedicle, which entered a minute ramification of a bronchial tube.
