Abstract: Watercolour medical illustration depicting tumours of the ear of a boy. It has the alternative reference number 1441 and P9 on the front. There is no Richmond Hospital Museum reference. The artist's name is in the bottom right corner 'J. Connolly fec.t' and in the bottom left 'Case of Rob.t Cowen Aet 3yrs'. The handwritten note on the back reads 'The notes on this case are published in detail, in the Dublin's Hospital Gazette (New Series) Vol. 3rd Pap. 295 – under the heading of Cases of Tumours in the Vicinity of the External Ear with Remarks by Christopher Fleming M.D., M.R.I.A (September 1856) – Surgeon to the Richmond Hospital. This graphic drawing by Mr Connolly, well represents the large fungoid mass occupying the regions of the mastoid passage on the right side and the [?] through the external [?] of an apparently continuous and similar growth on the corresponding side. The accompanying facial paralysis is also admirably exhibited. The [?] of the case were insidious [?], and repeated [?] preceded death. The boy appeared in rude health, and was aged about three years. Ch. Fleming M.D.' The note written sideways reads 'S.n Fleming's Case. Sept.r 5th & 8th 1856'. —
